Fine and Rare Japanese Art Presented by Sebastian Izzard LLC in Association with London Gallery Ltd at Fifth Edition of Frieze Masters

Sebastian Izzard LLC collaborated with London Gallery, Ltd., Tokyo, sharing Stand B06 at Frieze Masters, together presenting a dynamic display of Japanese art in a variety of media spanning a thousand years of history from the medieval through pre-modern periods.

Fine ukiyo-e paintings by Aoki Masatada (active ca. 1800) and Utagawa Kunisada II (1823–1880), and rare mica-ground prints by Toshusai Sharaku (active 1794–95) and Utagawa Kunisada (1786–1865) were featured as well as a selection of colorful ceramic wares highlighting the development of Japanese porcelain production in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.

London Gallery Ltd exhibited a selection of sculptures from both the Buddhist and Shinto traditions, ranging from the classical Heian period (794–1185) to the more baroque Kamakura period (1185–1333). Paintings of both religious and secular subjects were also highlighted the display as well as an important pair of early 17th century Kano school folding screens painted in the favored Chinese style with scenes from two legendary tales.
